Spanish AMDA Energia and local company Alt-E Technologies’ JV AE-AMD Renewable Energy has partnered with Tenesol for the completion of two South African ground-mounted solar projects. Tenesol, recently acquired by SunPower, will construct the Herbert and Greefspan schemes, altogether totaling around 33 MW.
The ground-mounted solar systems will feature 138,000 Tenesol TE 240 PV solar panels on single-axis trackers. The solar panels are being produced at the Cape Town manufacturing facility. Construction has already started on the 22-MW Herbert with the Greefspan project to soon break ground as part of the government’s REIPPP. Both projects are expected to be complete by Q2 2014.
