Six months after signing a MoU with Rufiji Basin Development Authority (RUBADA), Brazilian firm Odebrecht International presented a proposal for the Dar es Salaam hydrodam with a step-by-step implementation procedure including a market overview, various studies from engineering to environmental assessments, and a risk analysis.
The project is expected to cost around $2 billion, and after proposal review, an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) will be completed followed by the construction of the hydrodam. RUBADA director general Aloyce Masanja said once the project was completed, it could product 2.1 GW of power. The entire Basin is estimated to have the potential to produce 4 GW of power.
