The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is funding the rehabilitation of seven hydrometric stations in the south-eastern Kuando Kubango Province of Angola. The stations will control the discharge level of the rivers in Kuando Kubango. According to a report from the Angola Press, the project is estimated to cost $67,000.
The rehabilitation of the hydrometric stations commenced following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between FAO’s representative to Angola, Anatolio Ndong Mba, and the chairman of the Environment Conservation and Rural Integrated Development Association (ACADIR), José Neto.
The community located in the Kubango River region has been called on by FAO and ACADIR to aid in the management of the river basin. The call to the community is aimed at helping those in the region participate in the benefits the project brings to the region.
The project is considered of great importance not only to Angola but to other southern African countries. The project is set also to benefit Namibia, Botswana, and other neighboring countries.
