SKY Energy International installed Ethiopia’s first solar panel manufacturing facility in Addis Ababa. Together with Metals & Engineering Corp. (METEC) of Ethiopia, a 20-MW semi-automated turnkey PV module manufacturing facility
SKY Energy handled the logistics as well as the initial purchase of the raw materials for the plant. The firm also conducted training in the US for the Ethiopian operators and will complete the second phase of training in February at the factory. SKY Energy project manager Hazel Monroy told Alternative Energy Africa that the group’s engineer is current in the East African country calibrating the machines and preparing the line for production. Although trial runs are currently being conducted, the first panel was made in December. Monroy said that production was expected to begin in April.
