Egypt’s Electricity and Energy Minister Ahmed Emam said that Egypt is still on track to integrate 20% of renewable energy power generation into the country’s grid by 2020. He said that Egypt was finalizing adding 3.5 GW into the national power grid.
The Minister added that the European Commission said it would fund two out of three renewable energy projects which include two wind farms (totaling 200 MW) at the Red Sea. However, many projects in the Arab Spring country have been placed on the backburner as turmoil continues to riddle Egypt. Loans are also threatened (Major Loans in Limbo over Egypt’s Instability) with financiers playing a wait-and-see game with the Mohamed Morsy regime.
