juwi Breaks Ground on South Africa’s 1st EPC Project

juwi Renewable Energies (Pty) Ltd. started its first  7 MW solar park near Rustenburg, South Africa and once complete, expected to provide clean electricity for over 10,000 homes. The solar farm will have a total module surface of 94,650 square meters and once constructed, the PV system will produce more than 12.5 million kWh of electricity per year.

Contracted by Rustmo 1 Solar Farm (Pty) Ltd., the German company officially kicked off construction on its first South African engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project. The project provides 200 jobs during the engineering and construction phase as well as operation jobs for the next 20 years. Local content on the solar park is more than 40%, as required by the government in its Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Program (REIPPP), and is the first of four EPC projects juwi won during the first bid round under the REIPPP.

Momentous Technologies, Momentous Solar Farm, Momentous Foundation, and Evolution One Fund are owners of the project with a local community trust owning 17% of the plant. The trust is mandated to use the dividends from the projects for community programs for all areas within a radius of 50 km from the plant.
