Forbes released the world’s “Greenest Billionaires”, highlighting those that have made a pretty penny off of clean energy.
First on the list is South African born Elon Musk, a naturalized American entrepreneur that founded Paypal. He also happens to be involved with Tesla Motors, SpaceX, and SolarCity. The next African connection doesn’t come from someone that was born or lived on the continent, but rather is supplying Namibia with wind turbines. German Aloys Wobben founded the wind turbine manufacturer Enercon in 1984, now known as the fourth largest in the world.
As First Solar gears up to expand across the MENA region, one of its stakeholders is sitting happy thanks to an early bet made by her late-husband. Christy Walton, a member of the Wal-Mart family, made the list thanks to John Walton’s risk-taking bet on the company. It should also come as no surprise that Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Airlines, made the list after the great strides his company has made in terms of using biofuels.
