International Community Pledges €3.25 Billion to Rebuild Mali

At a conference jointly supported by the European Union and the Malian and French governments, international partners pledged to support Mali’s political transition and development process with €3.25-billion in funding.

 

The funds will contribute to Mali’s sustainable recovery plan, although the overall cost of the Recovery Plan is €4.3 billion.

 

Mali is expected to organize presidential elections in July which are considered a key step in the transition process. The European Commission and UNDP signed a financing agreement for €14.8 million in support of the electoral process, in the presence of the President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso, President of France François Hollande, and Malian President Traoré.
