On the heels of Chinese powerhouse Yingli signing a contract to supply the Jasper PV power plant with its modules, Internet giant Google has also stepped up to help finance the 96 MW PV power plant in South Africa’s Northern Cape.
While Google had already stepped into the solar foray, this is only its second renewable energy venture overseas. “[South Africa had] the highest growth in clean energy investment in the world last year,” Rick Needham, Google’s director of energy and sustainability, noted in a blog post.
