In Zimbabwe, ZESA Holdings reported that it will begin refurbishing two units at the Hwange Power Station. The company will be refurbishing units five and six in an effort to boost capacity at Hwange to 500 MW.
Zimbabwe’s Energy and Power Development Minister, Mike Nyambuya, said the national power utility was already finalizing a financing deal with a potential investor. The refurbishment is expected to cost around $15 million to complete.
Maintenance of units five and six is the second rehabilitation stage for the Hwange Power Station under a deal between Namibia Power Company and ZESA. Under the deal, NamPower assisted Hwange Power Station to refurbish units one through four.
“In line with the agreement with Nampower, currently 80 MW are being exported to Namibia as of June 15, 2008 to service the debt that was advanced to service the units,” Nyambuya said.
