Uganda has chosen Norplan to help implement its Global Energy Transfer Feed in Tariff (GET FiT) plan which will introduce innovative renewable energy subsidies. Norplan will work with its local partner, Newplan, to incorporate the program on behalf of the German development bank KfW over the next five years.
The GET FiT will support up to 20 renewable energy projects leveraging millions of dollars in investment. The implementation includes running the program secretariat in Kampala, appraise and rank all the interested projects, coordinate donors, World Bank and investment banks, and follow up projects regularly during construction. Norplan will provide services in management, engineering, environmental consulting, as well as both financial and legal advisory services.
Norplan’s Project Manager Joakim Arntsen said, “GET FiT is a very promising mechanism that addresses a suite of the most significant barriers facing private power investors in frontier markets like Uganda. Response from the private sector in Uganda is overwhelmingly positive. There is considerable international interest in what the program can achieve, in both energy and climate change circles.”
