French Energy Giants Combine to Create PV JV

Total SA, EDF SA, and other private and public organizations partnered to create a French solar PV research and development center. Other partners in the endeavour include the French National Center for Scientific Research, École Polytechnique Engineering School, Air Liquide SA, Horiba Jobin Yvon SAS, and Riber SA.

The IPVF has a budget of $206 million to begin construction in 2014 on the Paris-Saclay campus. By 2016, the institute expects to have almost 200 researchers from the private sector and partner public research centers, and will host teachers and masters and doctoral students.

“The Institute aims to make France a global leader in solar energy and to shape the future landscape of photovoltaics,” said Total Senior VP of Scientific Development Jean-François Minster. “We must support the Energy Transition by speeding up the development of affordable, efficient solutions.”
