Egypt signed a deal with the World Bank for the Helwan South Power Plant project to help meet local electricity demands.
World Bank Vice President for the MENA region Inger Andersen said that the project was necessary to support Egyptians during “this period of political and economic transition.” She said, “It will contribute 10% of new generation capacity to be added by 2018.” The project is expected to create around 4,000 jobs with the additional power generated to be distributed to the grid.
