A new report released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) predicts that renewable energy sources will make up almost 50% of the global electricity generated by 2035. World Energy Outlook shows wind accounting for 7.5% of the world’s power by 2035, up from its prediction last year of 7.3%, with 2,680 TWh produced. In 2011, 438 TWh was produced by wind power.
Wind and solar will be the main leaders as Asia leads the way with China and Japan accounting for more than 60% of the peak capacity. China’s demand is expected to exceed Europe and the US. The report also stated that hydropower, biomass, wind, and solar will rise above 30% during that period and China will have the highest capacity in seven years.
