A teacher from the US was shot dead in the Libyan city of Benghazi according the reports from officials. The teacher, identified as Ronald Thomas Smith II, was jogging in Benghazi when unknown assailants attacked him. The State Department identified Smith while a spokeswoman for the Al-Galaa hospital where Smith was taken, said the victim was from Texas.
Smith taught chemistry at the city’s International School, a Libyan-owned institute that follows an American curriculum.
No one has claimed responsibility for the teacher’s killing.
The shooting just highlights the ongoing insecurity of Libya, especially in Benghazi. Smith was one of four deaths that day. The other three were military personnel.
