Territorial Disputes Could Threaten Moroccan Solar

With Morocco’s plans to build five solar power plants, two located in the Western Sahara could be at risk. The two projects in the disputed territory include the 500 MW solar plant in Foum El Oued and a 100-MW solar scheme near Boujdour.

Lenders like the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), European Union, and Germany’s KfW have all said they would not finance any projects based in the Western Sahara as disputes over the land continue between the Moroccan and Algeria.
