Cote d’Ivoire to Build 275 MW Hydrodam

Cote d’Ivoire will receive $500 million for a hydropower dam from China’s ExIm Bank marking the largest amount of funds that the bank has given the country in 30 years.

Work on the 275-MW dam, located in Soubre, began on January 2 and is expected to be complete in four years. The country’s Oil and Energy Minister AdamaTougara said that the plant will help the country combat the growing energy deficit. The Soubre hydrodam is expected to come online by H2 2018 and will be the largest of its kind in Cote d’Ivoire.
