As Nigeria forges ahead to privatize its power sector, some positive movement has been made with one power station in particular. The Egbin Power Station’s new management Korea Electric Corp. (KEPCO) projects an additional 1,350 MW of power by 2017.
KEPCO formed a JV with Energy Resource Ltd. and New Electricity Distribution Co. The News Agency of Nigeria reported on a site visit that the transformation and branding has commenced. KEPCO managing director Gyoo Chull Yeom said the JV was working to rehabilitate the power station to its installed capacity of 1,320 MW within the year, adding that the station is expected to have 2,670 MW with the goal of reaching total capacity of over 10,000 MW in the next 10 years.
