The Transmission Co. of Nigeria (TCN) said it was ready to expand Nigeria’s electricity transmission lines to 7 GW from its current capacity of 5 GW.
The country’s peak generation is at 3.6 GW with TCN general manager Seun Olagunji saying that the company has the capacity to transmit 7 GW. Olagunju said some of the power plants were shut down for maintenance purposes, reiterating that maintaining the nation’s power plants is aimed at improving power supply. She said the shutdown of 600 MW Shiroro hydropower plant was necessary so as to allow the engineering maintenance crew to rectify faults on the station’s carbon dioxide control panel.
