Thecogas Senegal Installs Biogas Plant in Dakar Slaughterhouse

A Dakar slaughterhouse has been equipped with biogas plant thanks to Thecogas Senegal SARL. The plant, operated from waste recovery, has a capacity of 100 kW and is the first center of its kind, providing over 60% of the electrical needs.

At the end of 2011, Senegal adopted a renewable energy decree outlining the conditions of purchase and compensation of excess energy produced via renewables. In addition to biogas, the country’s national utility recently signed deals for wind and solar power plants which could see power generation increase by 310 MW. And even the newly formed Desertec France is looking into Senegal for possible power generation projects.
