Instability seems likely to continue as Egypt’s interim government has announced its resignation, according to Prime Minister Hazem Beblawi.
In his television address, he did not list reasons for the unexpected resignation; however, various strikes have repeatedly hampered the interim government. Beblawi will remain prime minister until a new one is appointed. The Prime Minister said that while Egypt had experienced an increase in strikes, that no government would have been able to meet each individual’s expectations in such a short time span. "The cabinet has over the past six or seven months shouldered a very difficult responsibility… in most cases the results were good," he said.
Beblawi said the government’s goal was to conquer the trifecta that plagues Egypt post-revolution: security, political, and economic problems. Local news source, Al Ahram, said that an unnamed source claimed the prime minister would be replaced by Housing Minister Ibrahim Mihlib. Defense Minister, Field Marshal Abdul Fattah Al Sisi is expected to make an announcement in response to the government step downs.
