Cornell University to House a 2-MW Solar Array

US Ivy League Cornell University will have a 2-MW solar array – its first large solar endeavor – at its Ithaca campus thanks to ABM. The company will provide the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) as well as operations and maintenance services. Its JV partner, Building Energy, will finance and own the solar power plant in partnership with Distributed Sun, LLC.

Over 6,500 panels will provide the university with fixed, low-cost energy rates under the 30-year agreement. The system is expected to generate just over 2.2 million kilowatt hours annually on average. Additionally, a section of the plant will be designated for academic use, which allows students physical access to manipulate 10 solar panels and access to the Web-based dashboard of the solar array state-of-the-art monitoring software.
