South Africa’s Largest Rooftop Solar Feeds Cape Town Grid

Feeding power back into South Africa’s Cape Town electrical distribution network, the 1.2 MW Blackriver Park solar project is South Africa’s largest roof-mounted solar PV systems. It has the capacity to generate under 2 million kWh annually from approximately 5,500 modules.

Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) located its offices in the facility choosing Blackriver because it is a “re-used old warehouse building” prioritizing energy efficiency and recycling. GBCSA urges employees to use alternative and public transport rather than individual automobiles by having less company parking available than workers.
