Supermajors and Clean Techs…The Results Are In

A poll conducted by Alternative Energy Africa and Petroleum Africa that asked readers to vote on which Supermajor they believe is accomplishing the most in clean energy technology has come to an end, and the results are none too surprising with BP leading the way on both websites. However, the final totals from both publications vary greatly, leaving numerous possibilities as to why the vast difference.

One possible reason could be the PR effort by the Supermajors. Each began a campaign to promote a softer image with company websites including articles like BP’s “The Global Battle to Counter CO2 Emissions” and Chevron’s promotion of its Salak geothermal field in Indonesia.

Undoubtedly the audience for AEA and PA vary greatly as AEA readers are well-versed on the subject matter and able to validate their choice based on well-founded reasoning. PA readers are largely interested in developments from the petroleum sector and are more inclined to absorb the message coming from print and TV media.
