The South African Solar Challenge 2008 will conclude its two week tour today featuring solar powered cars throughout the country. Teams designed and built cars have begun racing against other solar cars, with six cars heading to Cape Town, driving along the coast of Durban, and then climbing up the Drakensburg Mountains to reach the finish line at the Innovation Hub in Pretoria on Saturday.
The event is to bring awareness of building and using electric cars and other alternative energy solutions. The construction of the vehicles included combined technologies using electric motors, batteries, solar energy, and hydrogen fuel cells.
