Kenya saw its president, Uhuru Kenyatta, break ground and tour the facilities at a renewable energy project in Laisamis, Marsabit County – the Lake Turkana Wind Project. This project is the largest single private sector initiative in Africa.
The project has cost €623 million to develop and will produce 310 MW of electricity when it becomes fully operational in 2017. It is expected to contribute its first 90 MW of electricity to the national grid by next year.
Kenyatta, during his tour of the facility, called for more people to invest in wind power production, promising increased government cooperation to improve the investment environment.
