€200M Wind Energy Investment in Nigeria

Lagos State Government will embark on an estimated €200 million wind project in an effort to implement more methods of alternative energy as a source of power supply in Nigeria.

The project is in its early stages, and while alternative energy is expensive, Lagos representatives said there is no other option as power supply becomes a growing concern in the country. The Commissioner of Science and Technology Dr. Kadri Hamzat said the state had already sent experts to study how wind energy could be used.

The Commissioner said it is working with MAIS, a unit of Nigeria’s Intelligent Business Solutions, that has estimated that the area of Lekki can supply 1,000 MW of electricity powered by wind.
