On Climate Tour, President Obama Held Accountable by Fuels America for Proposal to Gut the RFS

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Following Fuels America’s full page ad in the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Monday and in the New Orleans Advocate Thursday aimed at President Obama’s broken commitments on the Renewable Fuel Standard, the renewable fuel advocates are running a third version of the ad. In a full page ad in the Alaska Dispatch News next Monday, Fuels America will continue to target the President to hold his administration accountable for proposing to gut the only law combating climate change, the RFS. The ad is keyed to the President’s visit to Anchorage as he tours the nation speaking about climate. Here’s an excerpt from the ad:

Mr. President, last week you went to Las Vegas to ask clean energy investors to rely on your commitments on climate change. In a few months, you’ll head into climate talks in Paris, where you’ll ask the world to follow your lead based on those commitments.

But at the same time, your Administration is pulling back on your commitment to the Renewable Fuel Standard, the only law on the books combating climate change.

Mr. President, you were right when you said the naysayers are “trying to undermine competition in the marketplace, and choke off consumer choice, and threaten an industry that’s churning out new jobs at a fast pace.” The problem is, your new proposal for the RFS would do the exact same thing.

The ads come as President Obama calls on other renewable energy sectors to invest—and as his EPA is proposing to cut renewable fuel volumes and fundamentally alter the RFS, leaving the oil industry in control of the nation’s renewable fuel supply. The ads also coincide with Sec. Clinton’s commitment to strengthen the RFS earlier this week in Iowa.
