Rolls-Royce signed a 15-year long-term service agreement (LTSA) with the TSK JV company, which will operate and maintain the 100-MW power plant currently being built in Mozambique. In June 2014 Rolls-Royce and TSK signed a contract to deliver 13 gas-driven 20-cylinder B35:40 generating sets for this power plant.
The plant is being built under an EPC contract for Gigawatt Mozambique SA.
The medium-speed B35:40V20AG2 generating sets for the power plant were delivered by Bergen Engines in H1 2015. They will serve as the core equipment for the 117-MW plant owned and operated by the independent power producer Gigawatt Mozambique. Bergen Engines is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems within the Land & Sea Division of Rolls-Royce.
“The medium-speed Rolls-Royce engines were chosen after an extensive technical and commercial evaluation process. We are looking forward to getting the plant into business operation as soon as possible,” said Dieter Klingenberg, Technical Director at Gigawatt Mozambique.
In addition to the core engines, Rolls-Royce supplies additional engine accessories and support including technical assistance with the construction of the power plant. The LTSA will run for 15 years and will cover the training of operating and maintenance staff, supervision of major maintenance, spare parts supply and technical support. The service support will be handled by Rolls-Royce Power Systems subsidiary MTU South Africa.
The plant is being built close to the border between Mozambique and South Africa, just outside the town of Ressano Garcia. Gigawatt Mozambique, the independent power producer (IPP), has concluded a take-off agreement with the state-owned utility, Electricidade de Mozambique (EDM). The project will provide much needed power for the country’s rapidly expanding economy.
The power plant is scheduled to start power production in H2 2015.
