Tanzania’s New Kyoto Approach

An agreement was signed in Dar es Salaam by the Dutch ambassador to Tanzania Karel van Kesteren and Artumus General Manager Richard Tainton to further implement a project inline with the Kyoto Protocol. The $16 million project is expected to reduce 200,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions over the next seven years, and will earn credits by investing in carbon dioxide reduction projects.

"This cooperation will further strengthen our friendship and intensify the close cooperation between the Netherlands and Tanzania," Dr van Kesteren noted.

"For the Netherlands and for Tanzania this is a very important initiative and a good example that Africa can benefit from the project," said Jacqueline Cramer, the Dutch minister for environment.
