GEA Says Enough Resources to Sustain Rapidly Growing Countries

Highlights have been issued for the Global Energy Assessment that analyzes major global issues regarding energy, economic growth and development, environment, and security. The fourth meeting of the GEA executive committee was held in Laxenburg, Austria from September 10-12.

Discussions included an assessment of the range of natural energy resources. In addition, resource stocks and renewable energy flows were found “plentiful and pose no inherent limitation to meeting even rapidly growing future global energy needs.” The GEA also noted that long-term technology is vital for future commercialization of unconventional resources.

The fifth meeting of the executive committee is scheduled for early 2009.
