Morocco’s CSP Plant Inaugurated by King Mohammed VI

The first phase of Morocco’s Noor I solar plant will be inaugurated by the country’s King Mohammed VI today according to the Minister Delegate in Charge of Environment, Hakima El Haite.

The Noor Project, located in Ouarzazate, will use Concentrating Solar Power (CSP), which “allows to store energy for nights and cloudy days.” The technology “uses mirrors to focus the sun’s light and heat up a liquid, which is mixed with water and reaches a temperature close to 400°C. This produces steam, which in turn drives a turbine to generate electrical power,” the Minister said.

Considered the world’s largest CSP plant, the Noor will aid Morocco in reaching its goal of producing about 52% of its energy needs from renewable energy by 2030.
