Zimbabwe is venturing into the wind power arena to help it avert is power crisis. The government is running a pilot wind project in Mamina. The pilot project is aimed at studying the viability of generating electricity using wind power to help power the country.
Energy and Power Development Minister Samuel Undenge said government was doing all it could to produce adequate power.
The AfDB estimates that sub-Saharan Africa has the potential to generate more than 170 GW of additional power using wind far more than the region’s current installations provided other forms, apart from thermal and hydro, are exploited.
