Ongoing protests by area residents have resulted in the planned Kinangop Wind Farm being halted by project developers. Residents argued the land for the proposed site was private property and they were being unrightfully forced into letting the project go forward.
Kinangop Wind Park CEO James Wakaba was quoted last week as saying “Kinangop Wind Park (KWP) regretfully announces that it is no longer in a position to construct and operate the 60.8MW Kinangop Wind Park project due to the ongoing impact of civil commotion. Subsequent to the protests, there have been a number of further serious security events in the area with the most recent occurring in February 2016.â€
He says for now, KWP cannot assure any hope of further constructions as a lot of funds have been used due to the delay of the project which was supposed to be completed in mid 2015.
In December 2013 GE signed a deal to supply 38, 1.6-MW turbines, provide operations and maintenance services to the wind farm. The turbines had already been delivered. It is not yet known where
