Namibia’s NamPower is to finalize an agreement with South Africa’s Eskom for the supply of 200 MW of power according to Kahenge Simson Haulofu, managing director at NamPower, in a report in The Namibian.
“Any additional supplies that may be requested will be negotiated as part of the day-ahead market established under the Southern African Power Pool, and can be sourced from any utility which is prepared to sell energy on a non-firm basis, and as mentioned, it is a day-ahead contract only,” Haulofu explained.
The utility firm is also close to securing an additional 44-MW supply of wind power from an unnamed private company that would emanate from the coastal town of Luderitz.
In addition, Haulofu announced that a tender for a 37-MW renewable energy plant in the Hardap region would be issued shortly.
