The Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria (REAN) reported that the Nigerian senate is currently debating the allocation of $30 million toward solar projects in the 2017 budget.
Godwin Aigbokhan, REAN’s Executive Secretary, said in a statement that the fund would be allocated to off-grid solar projects, PV manufacturing, and transmission upgrades.
He went on to say that the move towards solar power could provide as much as $2.5 billion in investments for the West African country’s utility scale solar projects by 2018.
The senate is expected to make its decision regarding the allocation of the $30 million by the end of March.
