Outcomes of Nigeria’s National Dialogue on Renewable Energy

A National Dialogue to Promote Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency in Nigeria was organized by the Community Research and Development Center (CREDC) from November 10-11. The discussions were an attempt to enhance financing in the sector, create awareness regarding energy efficiency, and develop and integrate strategies to further progress Nigeria’s policy framework.

One major result was the creation of a network, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Network (REEEN). As Alternative Energy Africa reported yesterday, the Federal Ministry of Environment, Housing, and Urban Development is actively seeking to organize a roundtable to continue discussions to move 20% of the Nigerian population toward renewable energy by 2012.

Participants at the conference included representatives of civil society organizations, NGOs, religious organizations, academic institutions, the private sector, government, and the media.
