Macky Sall, the president of Senegal, inaugurated the Santhiou Mekhe solar power station. The plant is considered the largest in West Africa.
The Santhiou Mekhe has a capacity of 30 MW and was set up by the French company Solairedirect, Engie’s solar branch. The power generated by the plant will be transferred to Senelec, the Senegalese company responsible for electricity supply under a 25-year power purchase contract.
The construction was carried out through a public-private partnership established between PROPARCO, the subsidiary of the French Development Agency and the sovereign strategic investment fund (FONSIS).
