Uganda Calls for Investment from Bahrain, Gulf States

Uganda has urged businesses in Bahrain and the Gulf region to bring their investments to Africa as opportunities are abundant. African countries offer investment opportunities in many sectors, including renewable energy, said Uganda First Deputy Prime Minister and East African Community Affairs Minister Eriya Kategaya.

"Investments in energy include the areas of large hydropower projects from 100 to 600 megawatts, renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and rural electrification," said Mr Kategaya.

"There is also considerable potential for renewable energy resources such as nuclear, biomass in terms of fuel-wood and charcoal, bio fuels, solar, wind, geothermal, small hydropower stations and biomass."

UAE Foreign Trade Minister Shaikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi said while Gulf and Africa‘s relations were fairly new, Gulf countries, including the UAE, were beginning to invest in Africa.
