Togo to Receive 300,000 Home Solar Systems

The government of Togo has signed a partnership agreement with BBOXX to deploy 300,000 domestic solar systems in the country over the next five years. The agreement was reached as part of the Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé’s CIZO ("enlighten" initiative) and the first 10,000 systems will be deployed in rural areas over the next 12 months.

BBOXX will bring its innovation BBOXX Home successfully deployed in Togo to Kenya, Rwanda, Pakistan, Nigeria, Cameroon, Angola and South Africa. Each system allows its recipient to charge up to five lamps, a television, a radio, and torches on a 12V battery. In addition, it is equipped with various intelligent technologies to ensure efficient use of electrical energy.

"In addition to increasing the rural electrification rate from 7% to 40%, the CIZO initiative aims to provide a massive adoption of mobile payment solutions in rural areas, which facilitates the financial inclusion of rural populations,"the presidency said in a press release.
