Nigerian indigenous company, Nigus, revealed plans to introduce electric vehicles (EV) into the Nigerian market in 2018. The company will do this through a partnership with Chinese firm Build Your Dreams (BYD).
In addition to bringing EV to the Nigerian market, Nigus plans to open a local assembly plant to manufacture the vehicles in the country by 2020. This news was revealed by the chairman of the company, Malik Ado-Ibrahim.
“We are also working with BYD to get a local brand and start an electric vehicle assembly plant for Nigeria from 2020. Gradually we will move to an EV with the African DNA starting in Nigeria,” he explained.
