The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) mobilized $ 1.55 billion from several international financial institutions to provide funds to improve the country’s electricity transmission network. The funders include the AfDB, the Islamic Development Bank, Japan International Cooperation Agency and the EU.
The news of the funding was announced by Usman Mohammed, general manager of state-firm.
The financing will make it possible for TCN to bring new projects to fruition, allow for the development of electric transport, and reinstate certain transmission extension projects previously abandoned due to lack of adequate financial support. These include the Abuja Electricity Transmission System Project, which involves the installation of three substations and the extension of transmission lines between Shiroro and Kaduna and between Kaduna and Kano.
