NREA Launches Tender for Zaafarana Spare Parts

Egypt’s NREA launched a $164 million tender for maintenance work and spare parts for the Zaafarana wind farms. The turbines at the wind farms have been malfunctioning due to a lack of spare parts and maintenance.

The NREA lacks financial liquidity according to the Head of NREA, Mohamed El Khayat in a Amwal Al Ghad report. The NREA head said that this makes it difficult to purchase the necessary spare parts for its wind farms. To resolve the issue, he suggested that the current price for electricity generated from the farms be reconsidered.

He also revealed that the government is in talks with Siemens to establish a 2,000 MW wind farm and a factory for producing turbine blades. The project would cost approximately $2.36 billion.
