Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has announced the start of a $200 million renewable energy (RE) project that would employ more than 4,000 residents at Lungi Acre.
The proposal is set to tackle employment, investment, heightening product value, foreign investment, electricity production, and the use of renewable energy sources. The president said, "This unique project is not the result of charity from more developed countries or from our development partners; it has been designed by one of the most hard-headed business concerns operating in the world today."
The Addax International-funded project will have a 20,000 hectares of sugarcane with an ethanol distillery to produce more than one million liters of ethanol a year, and place a 30MW power plant.
