Zimbabwe will see the first unit of the Kariba hydropower plant inaugurated by the country’s new president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, on December 24. The project will be able to supply 150 MW of power to the national grid.
The commissioning of this project will reduce the energy deficit of the company that forces the country to import energy. Zimbabwe has a production of 900 MW for a demand of 1,400 MW.
The project to expand the plant will be done in two stages and will add a total of 300 MW to the grid. The work will be done by Chinese firm Sinohydro.
