TCN Plans Boost in Transformers

The Transmission Company of Nigeria plans to commission transformers with a total capacity of 1,400 MW throughout the country in 2018. The acting executive director of the state utility, Usman Gur Mohammed, revealed this information during the presentation to parliament of the National Transmission Network Rehabilitation and Expansion Program.

According to Mohammed the implementation of these infrastructures is part of the process of improving the performance of the electricity network, which began several years ago. In 2017, 12 electrical transformers, representing approximately 10% of the contracts awarded under the project, were commissioned.

The medium-term goal is to increase Nigeria’s electricity transmission capacity from the current 6,000 MW to 25,000 MW, while rehabilitating and stabilizing the entire system.
