Spiro, the largest electric vehicle company in Africa, has signed an agreement with Ugandan authorities which will see it deploy 140,000 electric vehicles in the East African country. A network of 3,000 charging and swapping stations will also be included under the agreement as well as an assembly plant.
Spiro (formerly M Auto Electric Mobility) states: “This is an unprecedented step in the transition of African cities to more sustainable mobility. This partnership, the first between an African government and a green mobility company on the continent, will create over 9,000 jobs and will promote “made in Uganda” via the EV motorbike assembly plant that will be built in the country. Electric motorbikes will be affordable for future users thanks to this factory as they will be able to save up to 40%.”
The company has further expansion plans for East Africa while already active in West Africa with over 4,500 EV cycles on the road in Togo and Benin.
