A Year after First Projections, SA’s Sere Wind Farm Erects Turbines

After delays, South Africa’s Sere wind farm saw three of its planned 46 turbines erected with the state-owned utility Eskom. The scheme, expected to add 100 MW to the national grid, was originally slated to come online in Q4 2013. Eskom’s renewables senior GM Avanda Nakedi said the delay was a result of difficulties in obtaining the generation license.

Siemens announced in mid-May that it would supply the 46 SWT-2.3-108 wind turbines with an output of 2.3 MW each.
