A new project is geared to use solar-powered buoys to light the Strait of Gibraltar, the shortest sea passage between Africa and Europe. Project Heracles, a concept by Italian designer Alessndro Loschiavo in collaboration with Francesco Nava, will install buoys powered by solar to help swimmers cross the area in stages.
The solar powered lights also include floating platforms so exhausted swimmers can rest to gather strength for the next leg of their journey. This design is a new, interesting concept which could be a catalyst for more renewable energy devices to be deployed for various uses.
