African First: Biomass Power Plant

Johannesburg-based renewable energy company EECO Fuels has launched Africa’s first biomass-fired power plant.

The pilot model has a 120-kW production capacity and generates 1 kWh of power per 1 kg of waste from macadamia nut shells. The plant will be able to provide sufficient energy to power 30 homes.
